Modernize craftmanship
Knitrino was born out of passion of two closed-knit sisters/founders who have a dream to modernize knitting and bring the art of knitting to more people. In the words of the founders: “Knitrino is like Google Maps for knitting patterns: Click a stitch to see how to do it, highlight your current place, track your progress step by step, see charts in your yarn colors, see only your size, and more. There are no PDFs, no printing, just purchase your pattern and go!”

Research & design process
The Knitrino came to us with an existing application and outstanding feature issues that need solving. Interestingly, knitting holds many technical challenges which had never been solved before for a mobile interface. We first held a Mapping Workshop to document the journey a knitter would go through, keeping in mind different knowledge levels and therefore, different instructional levels throughout the journey.
Smoothing user and data flow
From this close collaboration with the founders, we then map out the ideal user flow for a knitter, including data capture points. This is a best-in-class example of how we can map out information in an intuitive visual for team discussion and alignment.
Sketching, design, and iterations
From a simple sketch to full branded design, we worked closely with the founding team and development team to deliver ready assets in an agile schedule.
User testing
Our design doesn’t end at pretty pixels visuals. We followed testing-driven methods and schedules to make sure every screen going into development had been tested and validated by real users. This was also one of the ways for the Knitrino team to build credentials and relationships with the knitters’ community.

“We've worked with (and interviewed) a lot of User Experience designers, and they are by far in the top 0.1% of all UX folks out there.”
