TAILORU Collective revised thesis

Two years ago, we embarked on a journey to explore a thesis of a humanity-first product studio, to only take on the kind of partnerships and projects which share our values. We believed, "In a world where technology is advancing exponentially, it’s our responsibility to invest in what makes us uniquely human.” Added another layer, we were going to do it with the collective power of like-minded individuals — hence the TAILORU Collective was born out of the thirst and frustration to do work that matter with a tribe that feels the same way.

With the way the world is heading especially in the US, social injustice, attacks on democracy, the overturn of fundamental human rights in Roe v. Wade abortion rights, forests burning, and cities flooding, we can not help but wonder if this concept of humanity-first is indeed honorable. At a macro level, it seems a bit selfish to only think about humans instead of all creatures around us, our environment. When looking deeper to the definition of ‘humanity’, we think about who defined this original definition and the others who are either being excluded entirely from its benefits or that their rights to existence and equal access to life are under attack every day. Is serving only humanity still the right thing to do? How do we focus our thesis, time, and talent on helping those who serve beyond a single definition of humanity? How to beyond our selves into the others?

  • From self to others: equalize access to education, financial opportunities, health care, and creative expressions

  • From self to nature: move away from a consumption culture into focusing on behavior change in service to the environment, move beyond being sustainable into being regenerative

From self to  others:

Breaking away from serving self-interests into serving the good of all. We do so by working with companies, startups, and organizations that:

  1. education: provide knowledge and networking to not some but all regardless of race, class, gender, and geography

  2. financial opportunities: provide financing access to underserved communities, build a diverse and inclusive workplace, support a remote future of work with global talents

  3. health care: open access to healthcare as a basic right, with attention to femme health and mental health

  4. creative expressions: teach and enable creative expressions

From self to  nature:

We are famous for our culture of consumption. Suddenly, being ‘sustainable’ is not enough anymore. What are we going to sustain if there’s nothing left to spend?

Going extreme beyond sustaining our lifestyle into working with nature to create a regenerative ecosystem:

  1. limit single-use shit that will hit landfill in mass

  2. support products with regenerative attributes at the core of their manufacturing and consumption cycle

  3. regenerative movements: support organizations that focus on enacting changes in human consumption behaviors and our relationship with nature

Moving from humanity-first to equity-first, we can revise our thesis to “In a world where technology is advancing exponentially, it’s our responsibility to contribute the best of humanity to further the good of others.”
